WHAT HAPPENED TO THE BEES?

from Jack and Nancy Stiefel
UPCOMING MOVIE
What:  Social Justice Film Series screens Vanishing of the Bees
Where:  Unitarian Universalist Fellowship of Vero Beach, corner of 16th St & 27th Ave
When:  7 pm Sunday, June 9, 2013
Synopsis:
Honeybees have been mysteriously disappearing across the planet, a phenomenon known as Colony Collapse Disorder.  This phenomenon has brought beekeepers to a crisis in an industry responsible for pollinating crops that make up 1/3 of the food on our tables.  Filmed across the US, Europe, Australia, and Asia, this documentary examines the alarming disappearance of honeybees and the greater meaning it holds about the relationship between mankind and Mother Earth.  As scientists puzzle over the cause, organic beekeepers suggest explanations. Conflicting options abound even after years of research, and a definitive answer has not been found to this problematic mystery.
The Fair Trade Corner will be open one-half hour prior to the film.  A discussion/comment period will follow the film.  Bring friends and neighbors to this free screening.  Donations to offset the screening rights fee are always welcome.  We hope to see you there!

JOHN'S MAY UPDATE

from John Debus
Hi Everyone,
Just wanted to update you on all that has been happening. First, the Move To Amend Day of Action, went really well about 8 to 10 people came out in support. We got 25 signatures on the petition in the 2 hours we were there, talked to MANY really nice people, and enjoyed ourselves. We got a suggestion to support the March Against Monsanto on the 25 of May from one of the petition signers. So everyone there decided to come back to the Library on the 25 in support. We put it on the facebook page and web-site and have been getting many positive responses. Hopefully some of you will also come out in support and help us get the message out to the people. The information is on our web-site under Happenings.
Any people or organizations that have events or meetings that would like to post them on our Happenings page, please e-mail me or Kathy with all the information as soon as possible to post to get the information to the people in time for them to plan to attend. Also post it on our Facebook page for all to see.
We had our board meeting on Tuesday, if any one is interested in a copy of the minutes please respond with a request. We will go over most of it at our next event. We did make a change to our event time, it will be at 6:30 pm this month, to give people a little more time to get there. We will do a poll to see what most prefer 6:00pm or 6:30pm or 7:00pm.
See you soon,
Take Care,
John

CANADIAN GENOCIDE

from Greg Wilson
On Saturday, June 8th from 2:00 – 4:00 p.m., Rev. Kevin Annett will be speaking at the Unitarian Universalist Church of Brevard. Kevin is co-founder of the International Tribunal into the Crimes of Church and State (ITCCS), which initially focused on crimes against humanity in western Canada committed against the Mohawk and six other Native North American Nations. Kevin will not only share his painful and heroicstory, he will also describe how the colonization of all peoples by trans-national corporations is in everyone's backyard. Kevin has become an expert in identifying themes of modern colonization and in identifying the connections between colonization, genocide and trans-national corporations, some including religious institutions. Using his work we can see the attention we need to pay to local and national legislation. Come and meet a dragon slayer, honor his work and life and learn how to focus our activism to quell the fire of the dragon.

We will also hear good old-fashioned (but current) protest songs from DockStreet Band.
We look forward to sharing this event with you and our community. We support the Native North American fight for justice, and opportunities for their stories to be heard, We can learn from their history and see more clearly what is happening all over this land. Almost single-handedly, former Canadian clergyman Kevin Annett has for over twenty years documented and exposed the deliberate mass murder of aboriginal children in Canada's Indian residential school system, and brought to trial those responsible.
Rev. Kevin Annett has become an expert at identifying themes of modern colonization and in identifying the connection of colonization, genocide and the role of some transnational corporations including religious institutions. He is the author of many books on the subject of genocide, the crimes of religion, and child abuse and trafficking, and he is an award winning documentary film producer. For more information, visit his website http://canadiangenocide.nativeweb.org/ index.html.
Using his work we can see the attention we need to pay to local and national legislation. Come and meet a dragon slayer, honor his work and life and learn how to focus our activism to quell the fire of the dragon.

END CORPORATE RULE

from Vicki Racine
At the April Conference Call for the End Corporate Rule Issue Team, PDA endorsed the American Anti-corruption Act. I hope you'll go to http://represent.us/cosponsor/9374 and become a co-sponsor of the Act, joining what will be one million citizens by the end of 2013. We already have more than 360,000 signatures. This is the one piece of legislation that can bring our federal government back to the people. If you ask the man (or woman) on the street why Congress can?t get anything done, he (or she) will almost certainly blame it on money?the huge sums that corporations and their lobbyists sluice through Capitol Hill every day. No matter what your favorite cause is?cutting military spending, saving the environment, improving transportation, reforming education, reducing health care costs?you won?t get it done because of money?corruption. And if it?s not campaign money that?s offered, it?s the opportunity of a high-paying job in a lobbying firm. So Congressional corruption is the gateway issue. Until we fix this problem, we?ll make no progress anywhere else. The American Anti-corruption Act will fix it. The Act was crafted by former Federal Election Commission chairman Trevor Potter in consultation with dozens of strategists, democracy reform leaders, and constitutional attorneys from across the political spectrum. It would transform how elections are financed, how lobbyists influence politics, and how political money is disclosed. It?s a sweeping proposal that would reshape the rules of American politics, and restore ordinary Americans as the most important stakeholders instead of the major donors. The Act enjoys support from progressives and conservatives alike. Constitutional attorneys confirm that the provisions are constitutional. The Act is being championed by the Represent.Us campaign. Read the actual 11-page bill here. Questions About the Act? Please Call 855-585-8100. Why Not A Constitutional Amendment? We wish our friends at MoveToAmend well, but we think a constitutional amendment won?t do the job because it won?t cover all the details of lobbying and bundling, and an amendment will require a 2/3 vote in each house of congress and then ratification by 38 states! What Are the Provisions of AACA? 1) Prohibit congresspersons from soliciting contributions from the interests they regulate. 2) Expand the definition of and register ALL lobbyists. 3) Toughen rules regarding coordination between Super PACS and campaigns. 4) Empower voters by creating a $100 tax rebate for contributions to candidates. 5) Require disclosure of names of ?bundlers.? 6) Close the lobby ?revolving door? by instituting a 7 year moratorium on transfers of personnel to lobbies. 7) Limit lobbyist donations to candidates, parties, and committees. 8) Require full and fast disclosure of funding sources for all political ads. 9) Enforce the rules. Strengthen the Federal Elections Commission and the congressional ethics enforcement processes. What?s The Plan? Become a ?sponsor? at http://represent.us/cosponsor/9374

TCPA UPDATE and UPCOMING

from John Debus
Hi Everyone,
We had a great event last Tuesday. Sister Pat gave a very motivational presentation that got everyone involved with a good understanding of CEJ mission and the Earth Rights movement. However it was a very lite turn-out. Only 25 people which is our smallest turn-out this year. Perhaps it was some of our snow-birds have went back north and the weather. I hope we are not losing our passion. The people that did attend were very dedicated and knowledgeable environmental concern citizens asking a lot of questions and looking for answers to our problems. The solutions we found will not come easy, but have decided the only hope is to work together and actively to make sure our voices are heard locally and nationally. We have decided to form two committees in t.c.p.a, to work on (1) this issue "Earth Rights" and the other (2) Move to Amend. We want to work locally and nationally with like minded organizations to push these issues. Anyone interested in serving/working with these issues can e-mail me. Our video and audio systems worked perfectly, however Sister Pat preferred not to use the mic, which she really didn't need.
We are also looking at changing our Event times to 6:30pm, to give people more time to get there. Please give me some feed back on your preference 6:00pm or 6:30pm?
Our next Event will be on 28 May 2013 at 6:00pm. We will be showing a documentary movies "Salmon Confidential". A very controversial film on what is killing wild salmon and why all the government and industry roadblocks. All the information is on the attach flyer and on our web site. Hope to see all of our passionate and progressive friends and family there. Anyone looking to car-pool let me know and I will try to connect you.
Space Coast Progressive Alliance will be having Corry Westbrook give a presentation on the conditions of our Oceans on 6 June in Melbourne. Corry has been working environmental issues for years and is an expert in her field. She is also running for congress and will be trying to send Congressman Posey into early retirement. It will be an excellent opportunity to meet and get to know her. I will be going up from Ft. Pierce, if anyone would like to ride along, you are very much welcome. All the information is on their web-site and we will also post it on ours.
Move To Amend protest/day of action will be this Saturday 11 May 2013, 10:00am to 12:00pm at the Library across from the farmers market in downtown Ft. Pierce. If you have a passion for this issue come on out with your signs and help hand out information in support for this movement. More information on this issue can be found on their web-site MoveToAmend.org . You can also get to it from our web-site.
We will be having our board meeting on 14 May 2013, 6:30pm at the Dunkin Donuts on US1 in Ft. Pierce by Virginia Ave. Anyone wanting to address the board on any issue may attend.
Again, please check out our web-site, blog, and Facebook pages regularly, and comment, give your opinion, and us some feedback. As ALWAYS, any questions, problems or suggestions you can contact me at ANYTIME. My contact info. is on the web-site or just reply to this e-mail.
Hope to see all of you soon,
Take care,
John
