On Sunday August 11, 2013, from 10-12, there will be another Save The St. Lucie River Rally in Stuart. The Florida Water and Land Legacy is going to be collecting signatures for their petition and need volunteers. Any TCPA member or friend who plans to attend the rally is invited to help out in this endeavor. The tentative schedule is shown below and subject to change. Terry LaPlante is organizing the volunteers and can help set people up with petitions. If you can't make it for breakfast, look for her or other volunteers at the rally.from Terry LaPlante
Here are the latest plans. Meet at Bagel Break 8 am which is just before the Stuart Bridge across from the Fresh market. There I will make sure everyone has petitions, we will divide into teams, car pool if feasible and head out to set up.
It would be best for everyone to have 6-10 clipboards and pens. I will have signs for people to wear etc. We will discuss whether to divide all volunteers between these two locations and place cars at other smaller access points for people to walk the beach to collect to the access point where their car will be. Or place 1 volunteer at each access point with the remainder at main locations. We will set up main site at Stuart Beach and Jensen Beach.
Afterwards we will meet at Conchy Joe's for lunch in Jensen Beach and everyone can turn their petitions in and celebrate maybe around 12:30. Please let me know if this plan works for you.. This is a tentative plan only and final plan is still to come. Please feel free to contact me directly. My phone and email are listed below. Thanks!

Here's the latest update from Terry LaPlante:
ReplyDeleteHi Volunteers,
The excitement is building and we are looking good with 21 volunteers. The plan is to meet at 8am Bagel Break 2395 SE Ocean Blvd. Stuart. It is right before the causeway across from the Fresh Market. There we will make sure everyone has plenty of clipboards, pens, signs etc. We will also form teams to cover 9 beaches. We will have tents and tables at Stuart Beach and Jensen beach in front of the pavilions. There will be shuttle buses running starting at 8am to drop off people at all beach locations. The pickup points for the shuttles are the Stuart Causeway and Jensen Causeway under the bridges.
The event will end about 11:30 and we will plan on meeting at Conchy Joe's around 12:30-1pm.
Places to collect where we need volunteers:
1.At the causeways where people will park to take a shuttle bus.
2. At the beaches by the access/ crossovers to the beach when they arrive and leave and then from 10-11:30 on the beach itself.
3. Perhaps, on the shuttles themselves
4. On the beach where people will line up for 3.1 miles
5. As people are leaving the beach…access crossover areas, parking areas, areas where people line up for shuttles.
It is important to understand that the earlier you get there the less likely you are to spend an hour or more in traffic or searching for parking. The event organizers are urging everyone to get there at 8am and the place is expected to be full by 9:30 or 10. So I think that the earlier we get there the easier and more fun it will be for us. With that said I want to give everyone a chance to opt out of meeting at Bagel Break if you would prefer to be assigned a location to be in place by 9am. Please email or call me back if you are opting out of morning meeting. Also, let me know if you prefer to collect at one location or another as listed above.
I will probably send one more email tomorrow (Saturday) with any final details that emerge in the next 24 hours. See you soon!
