MARTIN
COUNTY BRANCH OF THE NAACP 5085
PO
Box 41, Stuart FL 34995
NOTICE OF GENERAL BODY MEETING
Thursday, May 15, 2014, 7:00 pm
10th Street Community Center; 724 SE 10th Street, Stuart
Circuit
judge candidate Steve Ziskinder and at least one other candidate for that
office will appear Thursday night at a forum sponsored by the Martin County
chapter of the NAACP at the 10th Street Recreation Center in Stuart. According
to event coordinator Del Hall, Ziskinder, who is running in Group 4, and Judge
Larry Schack, who is the incumbent in Group 11, had confirmed their
participation as of this writing but their opponents had not. Ziskinder is
opposed by Michael Heisey and Schack faces Victoria Griffin.
The
forum, which begins at 7:00 p.m. will differ from typical candidate forums due
to restrictions imposed on judicial candidates by the Florida Judicial Code,
which prohibits them from expressing their views on issues. Each candidate will
have 10 minutes to address the audience and then field such questions as may be
answerable within the rules of that Code.
Ziskinder
is running for the Group 4 seat being vacated by Judge Dwight Geiger, who
retires at the end
of
this year. He began his career as a state prosecutor in St. Lucie County in
1988, and has been in private practice as a trial lawyer since 1991. He is the
owner of The Boston House, a historic national landmark building located next
to the St. Lucie County Courthouse, where his office is located. He is married
to attorney Melinda Plummer Ziskinder. They have three sons and live in Palm
City.
With
only two candidates involved in each race, the winners will be decided in the
primary election to be held on August 26th.
